Metropolis, Illinois has a very helpful Metropolis Chamber of Commerce. It is located at 607 Market Street If you are new in town or are looking for something to do you can contact them. Metropolis is also very well known as the Hometown of Superman. They built a 7-foot fiberglass Superman in 1986. In 1993 they rebuilt it and built a 15-foot tall, two-ton Superman made of bronze with engraved bricks purchased by citizens in the town.
They are currently working on a Tourism Plan to help revitalize and enhance the Metropolis Cityscape that will includes a marina, town center, fountain plaza, ferry street promenade, children's playground, community center, museum store, and a marina entry monument. They are also working on a new Police Station, and a 1.5 million dollar renovation of the Public Library. Metropolis is also known for the Harrah's Casino that is located on the Ohio River.
The Maple Grove Elementary School is located at 1698 Grand Chain Road and the Joppa Junior Senior High School is located at 911 Joppa North Ave. There are also several parks for children, parents, teenagers and families to go to. Franklin Park Girl Scout House at West 4th Street and the Marshall Crouse Park Memorial Park at West 7th Street.
